Plank Mattress Review

Plank Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding is a good choice for those who like firm mattresses, but are worried they won't like the feel of their new mattress. Their mattress is like getting two for the price of one because it is flippable, with each side offering a different firmness level.

TYPES

What bed sizes does Plank Mattress offer?

Plank Mattress Plank Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding offers mattresses in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King, Split California King, Short Full, Short Queen, Olympic Queen, Short King, and RV King sizes.

What type of mattresses does Plank Mattress offer?

Plank Mattress made a name for itself by offering ultra-firm mattresses for customers who felt that other companies' mattresses weren't firm enough. They offer two different mattress types, both offering a firm sleeping experience that back and stomach sleepers should benefit from.

  • The Plank: If you love firm mattresses, you'll enjoy that one side of this mattress is ranked as approximately an 8 on a 1 through 10 firmness scale. If that's not firm enough, you can flip it over to the other side, which is extra firm and ranks a 10 on that scale. This is a great option for heavier sleepers who tend to sink too far into other mattresses. It's also excellent for stomach sleepers since it's firm enough to prevent them from sinking too far in and causing neck and shoulder pain from an unnatural alignment.
  • The Plank Luxe Hybrid: The Plank Luxe Hybrid offers more pressure relief and a comfier feel than the Plank does because of the individually encased coils that were added into this design. Designed for back and stomach sleepers, this mattress will help keep your spine in its natural alignment.

Which Plank Mattress mattress type is best?

Plank Mattress created two different mattress types for those who need a firm mattress. They also paid attention to customers' needs by offering a big selection of sizes. They included the standard sizes you'll see elsewhere, such as twin, king, and queen, but they also offer sizes that are rarer, such as short queen, Olympic queen, and RV king. To ensure each customer gets exactly the feel they're looking for, they made each mattress flippable -- one side has a firm feel while the other is ultra-firm.

Which sleeping position is best for Plank Mattress mattresses?

The two different mattresses offered by Plank Mattress are best suited for stomach or back sleepers because of the firm feel and the support they offer. Sleepers who weigh more than average also have great success with these mattresses because they have enough support for them as well. Side sleepers may not have as much luck with the ultra-firm side of these flippable mattresses, but they may find the firm side to be a good fit.

Which body type is best for Plank Mattress mattresses?

The mattresses sold by Plank Mattress would be ideal for sleepers with above-average body weight because they are supportive enough to hold up long-term to higher weight amounts. Sleepers who are underweight may not enjoy the ultra-firm side as much, but they might like the firm side.

COMFORT

Is a Plank Mattress mattress firm or soft?

One of the most attractive features of the mattresses offered by Plank Mattress is that they are flippable. If you don't like the level of support on one side of the mattress, you can flip it over for a different level of firmness. It feels as if you're getting two mattresses in one product. Since Plank Mattress knows that what feels firm to one person isn't necessarily going to be firm enough for another person, they found a way with their flippable mattresses to offer a customized sleeping solution to their customers.

People who weigh more than usual will like that these mattresses are both designed to hold up to 950 pounds. They won't have to worry about shortening the lifespan of the mattress -- it's made to stand up to heavier weights and support them night after night.

Here are the firmness options they offer:

  • Firm: The firm side of the Plank and the Plank Luxe Hydrid mattresses shouldn't be mistaken for a medium-firm feel. While medium-firm mattresses rank about a 5 or a 6 on the firmness scale, the firm side of these mattresses ranks an 8. Sleepers who weigh 230 pounds or more should really enjoy this mattress because they won't sink into it.
  • Extra Firm: If an 8 on the firmness scale isn't enough for you, flip your Plank or Plank Luxe Hybrid over and try out the other side. The extra-firm side ranks a 10 on the firmness scale. If you've always been disappointed by the firmness level you've had with other mattresses you've tried, this mattress is as firm as you can get. If you're a back or stomach sleeper who has been plagued by pains in the morning or the middle of the night, the extra firm side may help you keep the correct body alignment so you experience less discomfort.

Does Plank Mattress provide back support?

Plank mattresses were designed to mimic the minimalist approach used in the Far East for sleep. The firmness helps your spine stay in a neutral position that benefits your posture and your back. By creating a neutral position, back pain can be eliminated for some sleepers.

Does Plank Mattress relieve pain?

For those who are suffering from back pain from side or back sleeping, Plank mattresses can make a big difference. Part of the pain relief comes from their unique flippable mattresses that let you choose between firm or extra firm. This allows customers to try out two different firmness levels and go with the one that feels best, even if they initially believed they would like the other side better.

The Plank model supports sleepers by using a seven-inch high-density base foam core. The Plank Luxe Hybrid increases that level of support by using a series of six-inch individually-encased TitanCaliber coils. Since they are individually encased, they help cut down on the motion transfer you feel when you're sharing your bed with another person and they move around a lot. That can lead to better sleep for both you and your partner since you won't feel the other one moving around a lot.

Both types of mattresses have a comfort level at the top to help create additional support and make the bed comfortable enough for you to enjoy. Even when a bed is firm, you still want it to feel welcoming and cozy. This level uses a quilted top weave that is constructed with high-density support foam and Titanflex comfort foam. These layers work together to create a super firm surface that will promote healthy spinal alignment and posture, which can be enough to eliminate some of those aches and pains that wake you up in the night or leave you feeling stiff and sore the next morning.

Even if you are on the heavier side and frequently wear out mattresses faster than they're supposed to last, you'll likely have great success with these models, which can both support up to 950 pounds. With a 10-year warranty for either model, these beds are carefully designed to maintain their firmness year after year. And if at some point you think you'd be better off with a different level of firmness, you can simply flip over your mattress and try the other side to see if it will suit your new needs better.

If you are underweight or on the light side of a normal weight category, you may not feel all the benefits of these mattresses because your weight won't be enough to get the full feel. If you share a bed with a partner who prefers a softer feel, both sides of this mattress will likely feel too firm for them, so that's something to keep in mind.

Does the Plank Mattress mattress keep cool at night?

Most people don't like to feel hot and sweaty while they sleep, and to help you avoid that, Plank mattresses include cooking features. Breathable quilted tops are placed on both sides of your mattress, and open-cell technology is used in the foam layers to promote a neutral temperature. The company also gives you the option of adding a cooling panel if you're buying the Plank Luxe Hybrid.

MATERIALS

Plank Mattress Construction

The Plank mattress is constructed using all foam -- the firmest kind available. The Plank Luxe Hybrid is made by adding a layer of individually encased coils that will help relieve pressure points. It also includes the signature ultra-firm foam layer.

What are Plank Mattress mattresses made from?

The quilted bottom layer on either side uses continuous stitching and creates a zero-loft sleeping surface. High-density foam known as TitanFlex is also used for deep compression support. Plank mattresses are created by using the safest materials available in the industry. The foam they use is CertiPUR-US certified, so customers can have peace of mind that it's toxin-free. They don't use chemical fire retardants on their mattresses, so you don't have to worry about any possible health concerns associated with that.

Does the Plank Mattress mattresses come in a box?

Plank mattresses are delivered in a box, which gives you the advantage of being able to easily get your new mattress into your bedroom.

Does Plank Mattress need a special foundation?

The best mattresses in the world won't do you much good if they're not using the proper base, so when you order a new mattress you should pay careful attention to the type of base that it works best with. Plank mattresses are firm to extra-firm, which means to get the full benefit, you'll want some kind of support system that allows for minimal to no flex. Most slat, box spring, and platform foundations are suitable, but you should check them first to ensure that they don't have too much give to them. You should also ensure they don't have any missing or broken pieces that would affect the level of support they give.

If you don't currently have a support system, Plank does offer some options you can add on to your order for an additional cost, such as the super duty high rise platform, the ready-to-assemble box foundation, or the Ascension bi-fold foundation. These can be a good option for those who don't know which type of support system will best go with their Plank mattress or those who would like to ensure that the company knows they were using an appropriate base in case any warranty issues come up at a later date.

Caring for your Plank Mattress mattress

To help extend the life of your mattress, Plank Mattress recommends rotating it 180 degrees every six months or so. You don't need to flip it over and use the other side unless you want to experience a different level of firmness. If you get any stains on your mattress, you can use a damp sponge or washcloth and a tiny amount of soap to clean it. You should let it dry fully before putting your sheet back on.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Plank Mattress Delivery

When you order a Plank mattress, it will arrive in a box at your doorstep. You'll be able to get it into your bedroom with ease because of the packaging. Once it arrives, you should unpack it within three weeks. If you don't open it that soon, the expansion of your mattress may be slowed.

Once your mattress is out of the box, you should avoid getting on it for three to five hours. You may notice a slight odor for the first 24 hours.

Plank Mattress Return Policy

Whether a mattress is a good fit is highly subjective. Two people can try the same mattress and have entirely different opinions about it. Most customers who buy Plank mattresses are happy with their purchase because they feel pain relief or comfort when they use them. But if you buy either the Plank or the Plank Luxe Hybrid and find neither side of the flippable mattress suits you, you can return it.

You'll have a trial period of 120 nights to make your decision. If you try one side and find it doesn't work for you, don't forget to test out the other side since it has a different level of firmness. One requirement the company has is that you must try your mattress for a minimum period of 30 days before you will be able to return it. That gives you enough time to adjust to the feel and the materials.

If you decide to return it, the process will be simple, and information will be sent to you about the process. Usually, the company will request that you donate the mattress and they tell their customers that some charity foundations will come to the home to pick up the mattress. If you're having difficulty getting a charity to pick up the mattress, you can contact Plank for more assistance. Once the mattress has been returned or donated, you should receive your refund in three to four business days if you paid with a credit card or immediately if you paid through PayPal.

You do need to be aware that any shipping fees you pay are not refundable, so you would forfeit that money if you decide to return your mattress. Another important thing to understand is that the 120-night trial doesn't apply to accessories you buy with your mattress, such as pillows, mattress protectors, or sheets. Those items have a 30-day trial period.

Plank Mattress Financing Options

A new mattress can be a big expense, especially if your budget is already tight. To help good, quality sleep become a reality for everyone, no matter what their budget is like, Plank Mattress offers various discounts as well as financing options. Discounts are available for military members, first responders, educators, students, and medical providers. The discounts listed also generally offer free shipping, but since discounts may change at a moment's notice, it's a good idea to verify if your particular discount is still on when you get ready to order.

Financing is offered through Klarna, and payment plans can be set up for six months for as low as a zero percent annual percentage rate. It's unclear what the highest APR might be, though. So, if you have bad credit or little credit, you can expect that your APR will be much higher than zero percent, and using Klarna for financing might cost you much more than if you had purchased the mattress outright. Before committing to paying a potentially high APR, you may want to explore other options for paying for your mattress.

If you decide to finance through Klarna, you'll have to fill out some basic information about yourself so that your APR percentage will be determined. You'll need to fill out an online form by typing in your name, address, zip code, and email address. Finding out if you qualify should only take a minute or two. Once you learn what your interest rate would be, you can turn down the financing or accept it. Before accepting it, you should read all the information they send you about your loan, including how much they charge for late payment fees and if you can prepay the full amount early with no penalty.

One thing to note if you live in Iowa or West Virginia, though, is that financing options for customers in these states might be limited or unavailable because of issues regarding consumer loans there.

Plank Mattress Warranties

Plank Mattress believes in their products, which is why they offer a 10-year warranty on their mattresses. The warranty covers any mattress defects that shouldn't occur with normal wear-and-tear or usage. One thing that is not covered by the warranty is the handles that are sewn on the side panels of certain mattresses. These handles are not supposed to be used for lifting the mattresses, according to Plank Mattress. The handles are meant to be decorative and must only be used occasionally if slight adjustments are needed to the mattress positioning. If you experience ripping of the handles, you won't be able to get a replacement mattress based on that damage.
